Our Theme for 2024 was
Peace
In keeping with Pugwash’s reputation as the site of historic conferences on nuclear disarmament and its reputation for facilitating constructive dialogue and action, the theme for the inaugural TEDx event in Pugwash was peace.
Our speakers considered peace from the Earth Charter’s definition: “the wholeness created by right relationships with oneself, other persons, other cultures, other life, Earth, and the larger whole of which all are a part.”
We recognise that we are all treaty people and have responsibilities to each other and this land. We also recognise the more than 400 year history of communities of African descent and the 50 African Nova Scotia communities throughout the region today.

TEDxPugwash is licensed by TED Conferences, LLC and, as a grassroots initiative, is presented in TED’s 40th year of operation under the organisation’s new mantra of “Ideas change everything.”
What is TEDx?
In the spirit of “ideas change everything”, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxPugwash, where x = independently organized TED event. At our TEDxPugwash event, TED Talks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.
